Apple salesApple’s success is due to the iPhone launched in 2007. Ever since then, no other product line generated more revenue. Still, 17 years after its launch, the iPhone product line generates more than $200 billion in fiscal revenues for the company. It is ultra hard for Apple to come along with a product that matches the iPhone sales, representing 52% of the company’s $383.3 billion in sales last year.

Hence there is one broader issue! Apple is lacking innovation. For instance, late last year it killed the self-driven car project. Today, the company says it will venture into the house and personal robots and appliances market!

We are highly skeptical about the move! Apple benefits from important and highly lucrative 3rd parties sales agreements when it comes to the iPhone market, aka Telecom operators burn the cost of marketing and sales in place of Apple, but then next to the iPhone, there is a void!

That innovation is hard to overcome and implementing it in the market is even harder. Apple scrapped the self-driving EV project and we doubt that mixed-reality goggles will become the next major moneymaker.  Similarly, the home robotics project is and off the company’s product roadmap and will it ever take place? The same applies to AI and ML concepts of Apple. While the projects are in a “work in progress” status, Apple hasn’t committed officially as a company.

Since the departure of Steve Jobs, Apple is in pursuit of the “next big thing”, which it has failed to discover. The smart home market is another area where the company is venturing. Technically speaking it could merge its existing technologies from AI chips inside iPhone and Macs, cameras from the Vision Pro and AirPods, touch-screen Macs, health technology with the noninvasive blood sugar monitor, and EV technology to build a neural engine that could perform more complex tasks such as cleaning a table and cleaning dishes in a sink. Provided engineers overcome the extraordinarily difficult development, bringing it to the market will be another thing. Amazon introduced the home robot system called Astro in 2021 and a cost of $1’600.- but the market wasn’t ready according to people familiar with the effort.

Is Apple condemned to be associated with the iPhone product line? Yes, if we go by the timeless adage: "A cobbler should stick to his last".
